When the pandemic hit, staying indoors for long periods made me look into a hobby I had coveted for a long time – learning to use a pen tablet screen to create a collection of one-line visual ideas and help me practice my drawing skills. It’s not so much New Yorker as it is more Gary Larson’s The Far Side. Larson is one of my heroes; a genius for telling a funny static story.

build

In 2017, I started to dream of designing a home to build back in New Zealand. But Adobe Illustrator’s 2D view just wasn’t matching up to my visions. So I taught myself how to use SketchUp 3D. So far, I’ve designed inside-out floor plans for 10 homes (including built-in custom furniture). In late 2020, my obsession finally culminated into reality for a functional, modern two-storey home in Indonesia.

mould

Did you know the concept of a matching table set is a Western one? In Japanese culture, ceramics were made for functional use only. It gives me better calmness than yoga – also you can’t offer your yoga sweat to others as a gift when you’re done.
